I actually have 2 questions that are related...

I have had an unidentified vaginal pain for the past 2 years making sex impossible, It's basically a patch of skin just inside my vaginal opening that is excrutiatingly painful to touch and penetration is a big no-no. It does not hurt any other time and there is no redness or itching. (Any suggestions? )
I recently stopped taking my BC pill as it just generally seemed pointless and while the pain hasn't gone it has improved.
I am yet to go back to the doctors but I have pretty much lost faith in them now after spending countless hours in waiting rooms only to be told to 'use more lubricant'

Anyway, my question is that seeing as how the pill seems to make my problem worse what are some other forms of birth control that could help me actually have sex!
Note: I can't use normal condoms as I am allergic and the non-latex ones just feel awful.

Was everything fine before 2 years ago? Did you have anything go on prior to it occurring that you can recall... major surgery, severe stress/emotional stress?
Are you able to use tampons or does that cause pain as well? Is it only painful when you try to engage in intercourse? Nothing can be seen such as an irritated area?
The possibility of something like vaginismus might be at least partly an issue.
As far as other forms of birth control... there is the IUD, the injection, ring, etc.. Are you wanting to avoid any hormonal type? Here's a few possibilities:

Yes, there was no pain or discomfort then 2 years ago it just went bang... no more sex.
There were no circumstances I can think of that caused it other than starting on a different pill around the same time. I have been with the same partner for the past 4 years.
My doctor said that I may have some degree of vaginismus but that was only after I had googled it and brought it up when I went for an appointment.
I had an OBGYN appointment about 2 months ago and she said that there was no pathology reason for it happening and referred me to a holistic treatment clinic which I am yet to call.

Thank you for that website, very helpful, and yes I would like to avoid hormonal contraception. I have been on the pill for about 5 years but was getting migraines with the original pills which were the ones with multi level hormones. My doctor changed my pill to one that was the same strength the whole way through and it didn't click till recently that it was not long after that the pain started.
