    Dual Citizenship: US and French
My father was French, born in France, both his parents were French and he lived all his childhood in France. He married and American, became an American citizen, had all his children in America, lived all his adult life in America. Both are deceased now. I am a US citizen, have lived all my childhood and adult life in America and am married to an American. I still have our French family home in France and spend some time there. My French is very limited. I think I would like to have a dual citizenship. Is this possible? If so, what are the qualifications and procedure to have dual citizenship... US and French at this time 2009? What are some of the benefits and limitations of dual citizenship?

As far as I know... The US does not grant Duel citizenship at all. Back when I sought it a few years ago, I was told by the government that if I claimed Polish citizenship, then I had to forfeit my US standing. Things might have changed in the past 10 years, but I do not think so.

The US does not grant dual citizenship but it does allow dual citizenship. Lawyers not well versed on this may give you inaccurate information. I'm trying to determine if I can get dual citizenship since I was born in France when my US citizen parents lived there. If you have learned anything about this let me know. Thank you.
