OK here's the problem. I have a thumping noise when I turn on my kitchen sink. It has a sprayer. Use the sprayer and no noise. Yesterday I installed a new diverter for sprayer. It worked great for a few hours. No thumping at all. Then the noise started again. This morning I took the diverter out and left it out to see. No noise. Is it OK to leave diverter out, or does that supply constant water to sprayer. Is it OK to not have the diverter? Any other suggestions? The new diverter was an exact replacement. Off brand purchased at grovers.

Not if you want the spray to work right. Let me explain what a diverter does.

When the faucet's turned on it pressurizes the spray so it's pressurized all the way through the hose to the shut off trigger in the spray head. In other words the hose is pressured to the spray head the instant you open the faucet.
When you pull the trigger on the spay head the diverter flap snaps down on the seat and seals off the spout. When the trigger's released the spray head shuts off and the diverter opens back up to let the water come out of the spout.
What your problem may be is that the house pressure's so great the diverter flap bangs against the seat with great force. Do you know what your house pressure is? If not go down to a hardware store and purchase a hose bib pressure gage, (see image) and let me know what it reads. Good luck, Tom
