    Finding out about abandoned property
I was wondering if anyone knew how to find out about abandoned property. There is a house in my neighbor hood that has been vacant for going on 2 -2 1/2 years now. About a year ago someone from a bank came down and changed all the locks on the doors and said the house was being taken back by the bank. No one has come back to the house since then and the yard is a mess as again it has been over 2 years now that someone has lived in it. I can't find anything out about it. I have tried to call realitors but they can't find anything on the house either. Anyone with any direction of help for me would be greatly apprecitated.

Try contacting the tax assessor or tax collector to see who is listed as the owner and where the tax bills are sent.

Correct answer but you can also complain to your city building department about the run down appearance without even knowing who owns the property. If the tax assessor were to give you name you would still be left with the problem of asking the owner to fix things up. My neighbors house was falling apart and they still live there. Another neighbor complained and the city was on their case within a week.
