Depends on level of his education... but it must be private school only. Public school cannot issue I-20 to foreign students.

I would recommend applying for school first, once admitted the school will issue I-20. He must apply for student visa at the US embassy in his home country.

Changing status from visitor's visa to student visa while in US is not recommended. The process takes at least 3 months, he may fall out of status before the case is approved.

Our aunt will sponsor his studies here.
Do they need all the necessary details?

As a sponsor, she needs to provide copies of her financial documents and tax return. These must be present to the consulate upon the time of interview.

Thank you for your quick reply.
It is quite late to schedule him for an interview in
Our country for student visa. Can he just mentioned
It to the port of entry that he is considering studying
Here? I read some article about it... the immigration
Should know beforehand so they can note in his passport
"prospective student" would it be a good idea?
Or it will only jeopardize his travel here?
We like to do it right for him.

Hello Luvlyasian, I am in the same situation where my brother has a tourist visa and I want him to go to high school here on F1. Have you found out anything else that will be helpful for me to know? Will appreciate it if you could share your research. Thanks.

    Hi there!
Yes we do it ourselves, we found school for him. Submitted all the necessary papers( original transcript, bank certificate with at least $25k ,application from school, photocopy passport etc.)
Then school accepted him, they issued I-20 , next step USCIS, same thing we file application form-539 ( not sure of the number) then original diploma because he graduated high school in Manila( he will be in college) , bank cert, a lawyer told us do not submit orig 1-94 so all photocopies. Our Great Aunt sponsor him, showing all capabilities of our family to support him. We just mailed it to USCIS with money order $300, the sevis fee( student fee) $200 we pay online.
School will give you instructions. It will also help to visit USCIS website to know how to apply. Now we are still waiting for the decision of immigration. If not approve, he will go back home, school here can issue another I-20 for Embassy in your country in case applicant want to apply again for student visa( but in his own country).

So we are still hoping he can stay.
    Goodluck on your application.
