    Mutual Joint Custody
Looking for advice: My friend would like me to file joint custody with her for her child. She is currently battling with many illnesses and believes that her child would be safe with me in the event her illnesses turns terminal. How does filing joint custody work in the state of Texas and how long does it take to get approval through the court system? Is there anything that she and I should do first to expedite the process? Can we write a letter and notarize it requesting joint custody to get the ball rolling? Will I have to appear in court to sign any paperwork? If so, what if my job prevents me from doing so? Will the court system approve my identity and signature through a mutual notarized letter between the parent and I?

    Thanks,
    Juleesa:)
