Digging out 20 year old hedges - how do I do it?
Hello! I have been offered a 20 year old Juniper Sea Greens that have been trimmed to 2-3 ft. tall. I would like to dig them out to transplant them at my home. Will I be able to do this just using a shovel?

    Thank you for any assistance...

If I remember correctly, they are quite deep rooted and if they are spread quite wide you will have to wear full body armor while digging them to protect your skin from getting scraped and cut.

They are a lovely Juniper, no doubt about it, but try one and see how it goes. Don't be worried about getting all the tap root, this can be cut and the plant still survive a transplant. Just add lots of water to the whole before you replant and fill in.

Best of luck with this task. It will be worth it. Make sure you have your relocation mapped out before you start though.
