    F1 to H1B: 1040 or 1040nr?
    Hi,

I came to the US on Aug 2005 on F-1. I was on OPT till Sept 30 2008 and changed to H1B on Oct 1. I went to H&R block and he filed 1040NR. My friend (exactly the same situation) went to H&R block and he filed 1040 and 1040NR both. I am confused. Which return do I need to file?

You filed correctly; your friend MAY have decidced to opt to file dual-status, which is permitted if he waits until 1 June 2009 to file. However, he likely got NO tax advantage by filing that way.
