ozipt - in order to change the 220volt 4 wire to a 120 volt three wire , you will have to change the wall receptical to a 3 bpron receptical> and use only the 1 black wire as the hot wire< use 1 white wire < and 1 ground wireat the wall receptical <connect the black wire to the brass colored screw on the receptical:: the white wire will hook to the silver colored screwand now in the panel box you will hook the black wire to the single breaker
The white wire will be hooked to the grounding bar and so will the ground wire from the dryer wires :: you will have to wire nut and tape the ends of the wires not goyng to be used;;you will only use the three wires i have indicated>> ;; have a great day and god bless ::f.b.e.

Generally can't go that way. 3 wire 240 to 4 wire 240 are possible and the reverse, but not reducing the voltage to 120. It's like making a toaster dry clothes at 120V.

120V runs the controls and the motors and 240 runs the heating elements.

Thanks for the response FBE, More specific the house socket is a 3prong 240 socket but wired 120(mobile home). Dryer was a 4prong240 I believe. I want to go 120v on dryer, house is already 120 but uses a 240 outlet socket. Just need to wire the dryer 120. Has a red, black, white and green(ground) terminals. Need to know what wires to use for 120v on dryer terminal. Again thank you.

HAY KISS_ IN THE POST <HE SAID THAT HE WANTS TO GO WITH 120 volt dryer,RIGHT, so if he changes the wireing back to a 110 volt circuit <AND ALSO CHANGES THE BREAKER TO A 110 volt circuit that's what he will have a 110 volt circuit ,right// F.B.E.

ozipt - use a wire nut screwed on to the red wire<and tape it with black tape :: use the black wire as the hot wire and the white wire as the common wire(nutural): and the green wire as as the bare copper ground wire ;; in the panel box -you will use the black wire to hook up to the new 20amp breaker the white wire and the green wire will hook up to the ground bars;; on the new receptical you will hook the black wire to the brass coloered screw and the white wire to the silver screw and the green wire will hook up to the green colored screw {note } be sure to turn the power off at the breaker before doing any elect< workhope this helps you out and have a great day and giod bless ::f.b.e.
