    Function of red wire in phone cord?
    Hi there, I'm just wondering what the function of the red wire is in a telephone cord?

    At the present time grn/red is line 1 and blk/yel is line #2.

    You need 2 wires to complete a circuit.

    Way back when the blk/yel pair used to provide power to "princess phones" which had a lighted dial.
