    It's actually more complicated than this. There is a lot of art as well as science to coloring hair. A lot of people recommend going to a salon for this reason.

    Basically, you have to lighten your hair and then recolor it. Most hair dyes do this in one step. So, if you obtain a red hair dye, mix it with developer (either the developer it comes with or purchased separately) you can put it on your hair and it *might* get it to the red you want it to be.

    I strongly recommend that you do a strand test first to make sure that what you get is what you want.
