Tax exempts items on 1042S - should include in 1040 or not?
I am phd student on a F1 visa, but as I have been in the States for more than 5 years, I am tax resident, therefore need to file 1040 or 1040EZ.

I received both w-2 and 1042S this year. On 1042S, there are two income items with income code of 15 and 19 respectively, and both of them are tax exempt under tax treaties (code 04 in box 06). And according there is no withholding tax. So my questions are:

    1. Are these both income items on 1042S taxable or non-taxable?
    2. Can I file 1040EZ? (will the 1042s prevent me from filing 1040EZ)? If I can, where should I put these the two income items on 1042S.
    3. If I need to file 1040, where should I put these two income items on 1042S?

    Thanks a lot!

These items are scholarship money (which MAY be taxable) and compensation for services rendered, which IS taxable. so it MUSt be reported on Form 1040.

Both items are reported on Line #7 of Form 1040, after determinine how much of the scholarship money is taxable.
