My 4 year old son is scared of lots of stuff. In preschool they played a game "what time is it mr. fox". It's a counting game and at one point the "fox", who is the teacher, runs after the kids. Seems like all the kids enjoy it but he was so scared. At night he would worry about school the next day. When I took him to school he would be so upset and it was due to that game. The game stopped and he was fine for a long time until recently. Now they are reading a book, which they will be acting out soon as well. The book is "Go To Bed Mortimer". I read the book and I can see how he would be scared, but yet all the other kids love it. He is now again frightened at night and worried about going to school. He is crying again when I drop him off. He says the book makes his stomach hurt and it scares him and he doesn't know how to make it stop. I can see he is very frightened. I don't know how to help him. I don't expect the teacher to change her plans due to my son. Especially when it is just him and all the other kids are fine. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I have spoke to his teacher and she isn't sure what to do. She basically told me the kids are learning to read the book and will be acting it out at a spring concert. She didn't give me any advice that seems to help our situation.

You don't let him know it is scary, and show him all the fun things in it.

We always addressed fears, sometimes in silly ways, we had that special monster gun to kill the monsters under the bed, we found how much fun it could be in the water

Have you considered discussing your child's anxiety with a pediatrician or social worker? Pre-schools do not refer or have any such folks on staff so don't expect them to be of much help finding one. However, your local school district, I know he's not there yet, has a preschool screening procedure that may be helpful in your situation.
