    Child abandoment
A mother of an 11 year old boy takes her son to a friend's house on January 29, 2009. The mother says that she will be back the next day to pick him up. To this date, March 16, 2009, the mother has made no attempt to reach the child or the friend where she dropped the child off. The boy has been sheltered by DCF in the state of Florida. My question is, is this child abandoment under Florida statute? Thank you

Normally yes this should be, which is why of course the child is with children's services. But even if it is, it will be up to DCF and the local DA to decide to press charges.

Where are the other family members why have they not attempted to get the child.
