    Searching for assets
My father passed away Jan.30 and didn't have anything in order or left anything where we could even find them. We've managed to find some info, but I know there's more. Is there an easier way to find out about life insurance or anything else that my mother is entitled too?

Look through bank statements for withdrawals to a life insurance company.
Check old mail to see if there were letters from insurance agents.
Contact the insurance company that the house and car are insured with.
If your father was employed, contact his employer to see if there was a policy at work.
Contact the National Association of Insurance Commissioners to see if they possibly have a record of any policies.
Call credit card companies that your father had cards with and see if there was a credit life policy.
The last thing I can think of is to watch the mail that is delivered closely. If there are active policies, they will be looking for a premium to be paid.

I also found the "Unclaimed assets" site for my State contained several stocks which my husband held. He (apparently) did not change his mailing address and the dividends sat uncollected for years.
