Time Frame for a Divorce in Mexico or Am I Being Taken For A Ride?
This is going to sound totally lame, but here goes.

I met a man, who I more than really like, who tells me he is married to a Mexican woman. They have been married 6 years in June. He claims he married her for two reasons. One, he really thought they would stay married (that's the nice part), and two, he wanted to own his property/his business in Mexico cheaply.

Now, he tells me he is done with her, but to continue to own his business in Mexico (cheaply or at all), he can't get a divorce until June. In June, he will attain dual citizenship. U.S/Mexico. He owns a house and a business in Mexico. I presume her name is on everything since he did this in the first place to save money.

Does any of this make sense? If it makes sense for the dual citizenship and property ownership and he is sincere about getting a divorce, how long does it take for him to obtain a divorce from his Mexican wife? Two scenarios - 1. she protests the divorce, and 2. she doesn't care.

I apologize. This sounds more like Dear Abby than immigration law, but I am trying to decide if he is sincere. I wasn't born yesterday, and don't want him to take advantage of me.

Thanks in advance for your advice!

For him, it is not possible get dual citizenship. Mexico does not recognize dual citizenship except for those born in Mexico, moved to other countries and become naturalized. If he wants to obtain Mexican Nationality, he must decline US Citizenship. Anyway, he can get a permanent residence in Mexico with his marriage certificate. Foreigners can own property in Mexico.

I am convinced that the divorce is just an excuse..
