Animated movie about "birth" of rock n roll, in the 80s
There was an animated movie back in the 80s about a young man in the streets who ends up a rock and roll star. There were some great songs on the soundtrack by Gerry Rafferty, Bruce Hornsby, Bob Seeger and such. Anybody know the title of that movie and where I might get a hold of a DVD?

I think the film you refer to is called "American Pop". http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Pop
I saw it in a theater in Miami, Florida while visiting a fried at University Of Miami in 1981-1982.
I believe this was filmed as a live action movie, with the animation laid over the film.
This process gave it a very "REAL" look and feel.
I have yet to find this movie on DVD or BluRay.

The main plot of American Pop is the immigrant family as each generation has its own close calls and struggles with music and stardom. For the most part they are on the edge and just missing 'the big break'. The music and history of rock & roll are framework for their story.

For those getting confused over whether it is animated or live action: it is animated using a process called rotoscoping (using live action as the foundation for the animation.) This same process has been used in Wizards and Heavy Metal. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rotoscoping
