    Ceiling Fan Pull Switch
I am trying to replace a ceiling fan pull switch as the chain broke off inside the switch. I have purchased two switches both being 3 speed 4 wire switches. I removed the old switch marking where the wires came out from. Installed the new switch inserting the wires in the position they originally came from. Neither one of the new switches works. I can reinstall the old switch and it works, just can't change the speed due to the chain being broke inside. One of the replacement switches came from walmart and the other from a local hardware store. Would like some suggestions on what to do.

What kind/brand fan do you have. Tell us the brand of switch you bought and any info on the switch package, I think you bought the wrong switch but we'll see.

This ceiling fan was in the house when I moved in. I don't know what brand it is. Can you tell me how to find out?
