185 John Deere not getting fuel.
185 John Deere tractor runs for one minute or less after I fill the line from the fuel pump to the carburetor.. then quits. It is only used for a snowblower now, not the lawn for 4 years.
I put on a new line and clamps and fuel filter today. And the same problem after trying a number of times.
I had a new fuel pump put on 3 or4 years ago. Seems like I have had trouble ever since with the same problem.
After a couple line refills from the fuel pump to the careburetor it would usually keep going, but now after several times it quits every time.
How much fuel should the fuel pump put out with the line off? I had to hold my finger over the fuel pump before the fuel would come, when I tried that. (at least it seemed like if I held my finger over it, it helped to get the fuel to come.

Answering my own question... I figure I got a defective 'new fuel pump' when it was replaced. That John Deere place is out of business now... I'm gong to order a new one online and put it on myself this time.

    Hi,
That machine is twenty some years old. Did you replace all of the fuel line, i.e. remove the operator deck, and check the fuel pickup in the tank. I worked for a Deere dealer for years and have seen "funny" things happen on older machines. I have seen new, stronger fuel pumps mask a problem elsewhere for a time. The pump should pulse significant fuel with the output line off and the engine cranked.
    Peace,

Good Answer.. thanks! It doesn't seem from what you say, that my fuel pump is putting out what it should? I may have to get to the line at the fuel tank and check that out. I did replace the line from the filter.. to fuel pump.. to carburetor. Not from the fuel tank to the filter.
I think that narrows it down pretty good! And it does seem like the fuel comes pretty freely up to the filter/fuel pump.
    Thanks again.. Don
