    Extreme social isolation case
    Dear all,

I am contacting your regarding the case of a cousin.

He is 30 years old. Graduated as a doctor in Medicine. Lives in Lebanon in the Middle East.

Leading a normal childhood and raised in a loving family, my cousin began work after graduation as MD with the military in Lebanon. But shortely, he began to isolate himself from society, from his friends and from his family. He used to come from work and lock himself in his room.

Things got worst when he stopped going to work and chose to permantly stay in his room.

Now, he locks himself in his room(no TV , no internet, no books, no newspapers), doesn't allow anyone in it, and only goes out to get food from kitchen.

He doesn't talk to anyone, he doesn't permit anyone to enter his room, and he rarely reply to anyone knocking on his door.

His personal hygiene and personal health is now a major concern(doensn't allow anyone to clean his room which is in a very bad shape and his feet are having very serious infections)

We have tried many chanels and many ways to try and establish a contact with him, but without success.

This case is running for over 5 years now.

I am contacting you as our last resort for help. A help in trying to understand him, a help of trying to survive in a house with such a case, and a help to try and bring him back.

Thank you in advance for your support!

It sounds to me like your brother has thought himself insane. I know of several cases of people doing this, one is what's known in the US as the uni bomber. (not to say he is homicidal, just as an example of what a brilliant mind can sometimes do to itself). Another case, I will be posting name shortly(he wrote a book about it), he literally thought himself insane, was committed, and then after doctors did everything they could think of, ended up thinking himself sane again. Id say in the case of your brother you should probably have him committed, because not only is his poor hygiene effecting him, but it has great potential to effect the rest of the family's health.
