    form 2555-EZ
    Hello,

I have the following confusion with regards to bonafide resident test for foreign earned income exclusion.

I was not residing physically in foreign country X for the tax year nor did I stay in country X for more than 330 days.

But, my wife is currently residing in country X so does the bonafide resident test have to be satisfied by both me and my wife to get foreign income exclusion credit?

    Please let me know ASAP.

    Thank you.

If your wife has foreign income, then for foreign income exclusion only she has to satisfy the bonafile resident test.

On the other hand, if you did not meet either the bona fide resident or the Physical Presence test you may not claim the exclusion.
You may however file a Form 1116 (foreign tax credit) to get credit for taxes paid to that foreign country.
