1991 honda lx coupe starting problems
Hi I have a 1991 Honda Accord LX and I have had starting problems since I've had it. The engine will turn over but not start and when it finally cranks up it dies like it is running out of gas. If I let it sit for a few minutes it starts up and runs great. I have another problem of my "S" light flashing sporadically and the transmission felt like it was slipping, like I had the car in neutral or had the emergency brake on. I stopped for a few seconds to ask directions and then I couldn't get it out of gear, I then turned the car off and tried to start but everything was dead not even a beep. The car did start with a jump. Does anyone know about this problem?:

The first part of your problem sounds like you need to replace the main relay.

No, the "s" light is like a sport button on the automatic gear shift , and you engage if you need more power, I guess that's what it is for, It has a light on the dash for that button, it's green with an "s" in the center.

It's hard to tell what could be wrong with your automatic transmission. I would begin by changing all of the ATF (including the torque converter). My preference would be Amsoil Universal Synthetic ATF, which meets Honda's specifications.

It sounds like you're having a problem with your main relay. It's a common problem in older Honda's. I had a 91 civic that had the same problem and I often encountered other Honda owners who had that problem too. Email me at [email protected] and I would be happy to reply with a pdf attached that describes the problem and offers you some solutions. It worked for me, I got it from another member here at ask me help me.

    Good luck.

So I don't look it over, type in Honda in the title.

The Fan Is Fed By A Temperature Switch. This Switch Has Constant Voltage, Not Keyed. The Fan Will Come On Randomly If The Engine Temp Exceeds The Ideal Operating Temp. This Is Preset By The Manufacturer. If It Comes On With A Cool Or Cold Engine, The Swich Is Faulty. It Is Located On Or Beside The Thermostat Housing, And Protrudes Into The Coolant. The Coolant Must Be Drained Down Below This Level To Be Changed Without A Big Mess.

The blinking "S" light indicates tranny problem. If its just not blinking but on just push the button on the shifter and it should go off

If temperature sensor is bad, and is unplugged, won't the fan stop running; this is
About the 1991 honda accord, the fan runs at night, even if the car is cold.

This feed is so old I know you fixed the problem by now, But Mine did this and it is the transmission computer. It's located under the passenger side floor board. Ifg you look at the board you will see burn signs on the resisters. You can get a rebuilt one off e-bay for 79.99 after you send back the core. Cost 109.00 at first. Mine works great now.
