    Fetus has heart defects
Last week I went to the doctors to get an ultrasound, because I had a fear of downsyndrom. During the ultrasound the nurse said the chambers of the heart were not growing properly. I had an amnio, and the test came back clear. But I am still worried about the heart defects? Will it clear up on it's own? Is my baby going to be OK?

Did you ask the doctor those questions? I couldn't tell you, the best person to ask is the doctor.

THe other part of what would ve helpful to know is just how far along are you? By the end of the second month, the fetal heart has all four chambers and four valves. If you haven't reached this time yet, is it possible that they will catch up in development? What did the Dr. Say was the course of action or the plan for something of this nature?

I am about 14 weeks. I tried to ask my doctors, they kind of just avoided the question and they just kept on telling me they need to do more tests.

At 14 weeks it is still pretty much too early to tell. Will it clear up on it's own? That's impossible for us to know. You should be transferred to a doctor who deals with high risk pregnancy and delivery if you are not already. Make sure your hospital has a level 3 or 4 nursery with a NICU if you should need it.

Is your baby going to be okay? Again, that is impossible for us to answer. Knowing the name of the defect may be helpful, but then again, we are not neonatal cardiologists, so we cannot give you a definitive answer.

I'm sorry, I wish I could tell you that everything will be perfect, but I just don't have the answers to your questions. Only your doctor does.

Very true that we are not able to give a definitive answer. Only time and God knows. As much as possible relax your mind and don't stress too much at this point. If there are additional tests that they want to perform, please allow for them and continue to ask questions and be your own advocate. Iwant to add this, PRAY and I will do the same for you and your baby. God Bless
