I have a G.E. RO system that contains one membrane filter and 2 prefilter/ postfilter cartridges, and it is used for only ice cubes and water at the kitchen sink. Recently I noticed my water bill increased by more than ½ and I found that the reject water flow did not stop , it flowed water all the time.
Assuming the automatic shutoff assembly was faulty I replaced the diaphragms’ and the plunger but this did not fix the problem. I filled the ice cube tray and two 8 oz bottles of water and the reject water did not shut off. I shut off the supply water to the unit to stop wasting water and the next day I turned it back on and the reject water had stopped, I filled five 8 oz bottles of water and the reject water started again because it was filling the 1.3 gal. tank. After rejecting 15+ gallons of water it was still rejecting so I shut it off. I have adjusted the input water pressure from 90 lbs which is what it was since we moved in 5 years ago down to 50 lbs then back up to 70 lbs and the automatic water shut-off just keeps happily rejecting water and will not stop. I have 10 lb’s of air pressure in the storage tank.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, I changed all 3 filters about a year ago.
Home depot wants to sell me a new system and I’m convinced this system can be fixed. Again thank you for any help you may be able to give me.

Your storage tank is not filling up, or else it is not pressurized. The bladder inside your tank should have about 7-8 psi when it is empty and should have about 40 psi when it is full. You need to add more air pressure to it. As far as flow is concerned how is it coming out of the tap in your sink? Is it just a trickle or does it flow pretty well?

As far as the Waste water I'm wondering if there is not enough pressure to keep the system from adding more water.

For the time being, shut off the water to your RO, empty out the storage tank completely, check the pressure. Put 8 PSI in it. Turn your water back on. Let it fill completely and then check the PSI and make sure that it is between 45-49 PSI. Make sure there are no leaks anywhere in the system and that should stop the water.

I in the mean time will be doing some research on the GE and see if there are any other solutions that I can offer.
