Unemployment and how it affects your next possible position
I was recently let go in the pharma industry from a large company due to downsizing. If I collect unemployment, will it hurt my chances of getting another position in the industry? "Total background" checks are done will this show up?
Thanks in advance for your advice-

I don't see this hurting your employment chances in the future. Collecting unemployment is nothing to be ashamed or embarrassed about. It's just a normal thing. It also shows that you were not fired from your job and is actually a good thing showing that you were telling the truth when you said your company downsized.

It cause a problem, but be honest if the question is posted on an application. From my experience though, this question is not asked. If you have a gap in your employment, just keep the interview focus on the gap and talk about you did during the break of employment.

Twink is correct. Collecting unemployment is what you do when laid off, when you no longer have a job through no fault of your own. The benefits vary from state to state and depend on what your income was when you were working. Unemployment benefits are meant to be a lifebuoy to keep you afloat until you find another job. That's why one of the requirements is to job hunt and give evidence of that to the unemployment office.
