    Felony stealing 3rd offense
I have a friend in a legal situation. He was charged with a stealing third offense a class D felony. I being a friend bonded him out with 500 dollars. We haved tried to found affordable council but the truth is I can't afford a lawyer and neither can he. He has a courtdate for march 9 2009 but he will miss it because he is incarcerated on doesn't get out till the 10, I have asked the courts and they said he couldn't get a public defender because he made bond so what's happens in this case if he has no council and can't get a public defender. Also I would like to know how great the penalty holds for a felony stealing charge because before I bonded him out the plea was 4 years and he does 15% at a prison.

    Hello W:

If he has no money, they'll give him an attorney. If they don't, he MUST tell the judge that he cannot continue WITHOUT legal representation.

Once he has a lawyer, he should listen to him.
