I'm in the auto repair business. In this industry,I have seen mechanics try to market themselves primarily in social setting, like bars and restaurants. Is this kind of marketing successful? And if it is,how does it work?

I believe that a large part of marketing is networking Kibss, whether it is in a professional or social setting. You own the business and you have to tell the world.

Remember the old saying; (Not verbatim) You can build the world's best mouse trap and no one will beat a path to your door unless they know about it.

Another quirky story; Once there was a company that made a popular drink and was the largest seller of this drink in the country. They never felt that they ever had to advertise, why... they held the largest market share, why spend all that money needlessly? A small drug store started selling a carbonated drink in his store that he had invented. He did all right with it and sold the rights of the drink combination (secrets) to a larger firm who marketed the h*ll out of it. NO one remembers the company with the 'popular drink' anymore... but they sure do know the present carbonated drink company and so do you... COKE..

So yeah! Tell the world; you won't have to cut the grass in front of your business anymore...
