Received a summons for old debt
    Hello,

I received a summons on my door for a credit card debt. As Im obviously an idiot I've been ignoring letters debt collectors have been sending me simply because I don't have the money to pay.

This one however is a bit different unlike my other debts I have no idea what this pertains to. The plantif is Midland credit management. They are suing me over a debt purchased by them from some supposed account I had from a company called ASSOCIATES, I haven't been able to find any company by this name. I should have responded when they sent me letters previously but I'm unsure as to what to do.
Its 856.00 that they are suing for so it doesn't really make it worth it for me to contact a lawyer. But I don't feel I should have to pay a debt I have no idea what it is. I was considering sending them a request now for a debt validation but from what I've read I'm guessing its too late in the game. Do I send notice to them stating my defense is I'm unsure I owe this debt and send a copy to the city clerks office. But if I do that can they still bring me to court even though I requested proof of oweing the debt. Which since I'm defending myself they are required to give me right? Please help I need an answer soon. I want to answer this as soon as possible. Thank you for your time
