Hello, everybody!

I'm currently dealing with an extremely frustrating problem regarding my heat pump...
If somebody, please point me to a right direction here?
After countless visits from a HVAC company and close to $1800 in repair invoices paid over last three month I pretty much ran out of options.
The unit (5 years old) stop working back in October (still used AC-mode back then).
Got the compressor then contactor subsequently replaced...
Not sure about the AC since we didn't have any hot days... seems to be OK
However in the heating mode when it is really cold outside (30-35) and the unit set to
Maintain the temperature of 70 degrees:

1.Termostat kicks off new cycle
2.Air begins to blow (warm-ish at best)
3.After 10-15 minutes the air start turning progressevly cold
4.Temperature drops to like 66-67 as air becomes ice cold
5.After another 15 minutes or so the air start warming up again
And eventually (after an hour or so) reaches the 70 degree mark

HVAC people assured me that the termostat is not good... agreed to replacement.
No difference... then they said it was a controlling circuit issues... replaced...
No difference... next one the reversing valve... replaced... same problem
I just feel completely helpless here... since I don't know much about this subject
Am I being fleeced.. what can I do..


I would very grateful if someone helps in any way...

Perhaps the system is experiencing overly-frequent defrost cycles, and failing to activate the auxiliary heat during them. I find it somewhat troubling that you have spent so much on repairs for a relatively new unit, and you are still experiencing problems. It seems that effective troubleshooting has been replaced by trial-and-error parts replacement.

KC13, I appreciate you taking time to post your comment...
Regarding the 'effective troubleshooting' technique:
I posed the same question to the "repair specialist".
He stated that once any of the component start acting up,
It causes something else to fail in the process.
Along the lines of "because the thermostat sending wrong voltage to
the inside control board it essentially 'fries' it which in turn destroys such and such" etc...
Does this sound like a trustworthy explanation?
So to make the long story short the company said after I confronted them
They can not guarantee that replacing a part (last one would be the outside control board at $275 installed) will solve my problem and now they push me hard to get brand new unit at $3200.

Apparently they have no clue as to what the problem is. Let them replace the unit, and have them credit you the $1800 you have already spent towards the new unit. If they won't budge on the credit, talk to the owner of the company. When the new unit is installed and running correctly, sever all ties with this company. Any company that cannot guarantee their work shouldn't be in the business.

You are being ripped off. Call the BBB and file a complaint.

Can you get to the thermostat and tell me what the wires are going to... i.e. the colors of the wires- the terminals they are going to... if you can post it here I will see if the stat is wired so the heating never can come on... but I do agree with the people above they are a very bad company and not all HVAC people are like this... do not have them come out and charge you again...
