    Heavy bleeding during period
For about 5 years now I have had severe bleeding for the first 2 days of my week long period. 'Flooding' is a major problem, I lose many clots which also cause pain. I have been to many doctors who sugested many remedies eg: pill (didn't work as this made me have a period every 2 weeks), coil ( again tried but did not work), tablets to stop bleeding ( again not worked). I have had scans and an operation & biopsy but still nothing has been done, one doctor in question focused more on the pain than the bleeding.. The bleeding is so bad that I cannot go out during this time each month. It has caused depression etc. I asked a doctor if I could have a hysterectomy but was told I had to try other things first. I am now 40, have 5 children, with no intention of having more. I am now going back to see yet another doctor in March but I don't want to be fobbed off with yet more trials etc. Does anyone know if I have the right to demand a hysterectomy?

Did they ever determine a cause? An endometrial ablation may be an option in your situation. It is less invasive than a hysterectomy, may even cause your periods to cease altogether. Some doctors have experience with them, others do not, but perhaps you could get a referral to find out more about the procedure.
Hysterectomy is considered a last resort for dealing with unusual bleeding, but sometimes does become necessary depending on the circumstances.

Have you had your thyroid checked? Hypothyroidism can cause crazy periods and depression/fatigue symptoms, too.

U don't have fibroids? I had those symptoms
It was fibroids. I had them removed. 5 yrs later the symptoms came back... it's a on going battle. BUT! I had 5 yrs relief... now I have 1 heavy day only! I can live w/ that until menopause.
