Hi... 100,000 BTU rheem cirterion II... 10 yrs old... rgph 10amer
Fan runs
No heat
I taped on the gas vaule a little
Ignitor came on and gas came on and its OK now
Future proublens with what? Bad ignitor?

Are you kidding? Help you? I would need tools, testers, etc... you just used a finger!:p Okay, seriously, tapping on the gas valve probably transferred some motion and/or shock through the unit, and I'm thinking perhaps the pressure switch was not fully engaged until "the Midas touch" entered the picture... check for loose electrical connections, etc.

I did the tapping... working fine sisce theni see bryant by your name... if I need another furnace... is a rheem as good as anything... I see there about 600 or so... I could proubly put it in... thank you

When our Rheem (Criterion model, circa 1994) gas furnace was just blowing air, we called for a service person.

Within five minutes he found the problem.

A cracked HOT SURFACE IGNITOR.

I was told that this part does not last forever.

The igniter looks like a 2 inch tall element (similar to what is inside an incandescent light bulb but flat, like a large paperclip) mounted on a square base that is attached to 6 inches of wrapped wires that ends in a two prong male plug.

Here is what a Rheem hot surface igniter looks like:

The LEFT one is good.

The RIGHT one is bad.

Hot surface igniters are very delicate and the igniter part should not be touched by human hands because the oil on our hands will damage the surface (just like a halogen bulb).
