Child Support after termination of parental rights
My grandson's parental rights were terminated in Oklahoma but the state is still requiring him to pay child support. He has no contact with his child. How can he legally discontinue paying support?

He cannot - he is responsible for child support until someone else steps up to support the child, such as a step parent who wishes to adopt.

In the US, each state makes the laws governing this. The states fall into two groups in respect to this. Some states terminate rights AND responsibilities. Others only terminate rights.

It appears that OK is one of the latter. So, he will continue to be responsible for support under the terms of the support order.

    Why were his rights terminated?

Also its possible that he no longer owes " current " child supprt. He may have arrears that he is supposed to be paying on and many states put interest on that amount of 10% in some cases. If all of his rights were terminated he would still owe the arrears and that's for a lifetime.
