    US Tax Filing
    Dear Members,

I would like to clarify, whether an individual will be eligible to make the Tax Filing through Itemized deductions in the second Tax Year, regardless of how the tax filing was made during the previous Tax Year.

I happen to hear that IRS will accept the tax filing through Itemized deductions ONLY within in the first 12 months of entering into the United States (i.e.) If entered during Dec 2006 and working till date, then the individual can at the most file through Itemized deductions for TY2007 only. Is this statement true? Can you please clarify.

    Thanks & Regards,
    Siva

You can opt for itemized deductions in 2008 even if you did not itemized in 2007. You will take deduction only if your itemized deductions are more than your standard deduction Read: Your U.S. Tax Return: Itemized Deductions
