    NC State Tax
I am a non resident of North Carolina since I stayed in NC for 3 months during my internship. I am a resident of Ames.
    1. Which forms should I fill for NC ?
    2. Should I claim refund in NC ?
    3. Should I fill form 1040A ( Iowa state tax ) form and claim refund here ?
    4. Even if I am not claiming refund in NC should I still file a return ?

    Regards,
    Utkarsh

    Utkarsh:

You will file as a non-resident of North Carolina, but pay taxes as required by NC. You will probably get some type of refund.

When you file as a full-year resident of Iowa, you claim a credit for the NC taxes you paid to NC state on your Iowa return. You should attach a copy of the NC non-resident tax return to the Iowa return if you mail it in.

I cannot say which forms need to be filed, but any competent tax preparer will be able to file these returns with little problem.

If you have two W2's, add them together and enter the total on your 1040. Don't forget to do the same when reporting taxes withheld by your employers.
