Tenant says she put cash under my door
I have a tenant who we are starting to evict. She is 3 months behind. She is claiming that she slipped 1000 dollars under our door on Sat night at 11pm. We haven't seen it and never rec'd a call from her that it is there (lease asks for rent in check or money order). Could we be liable for the money though she never handed it to us or got a receipt?

Of course not, laugh at her and tell her you never received the money and move on as if it never happened, in eviction court, if she even shows up, she can tell you that story but with no receipt, no proof that she paid, it islike it never happened.

The judge is unlikely to believe anyone would slip cash under a door to pay back rent.
