Job in NYC, part-year resident of NY & NJ.
I lived in NYC from Jan-July, then move to NJ. I held the same job in NYC all year. I'm doing my taxes in Turbo Tax right now and it's asking the following:

    "New Jersey Wages
Enter the portion of the total wages received while a New Jersey resident or received from New Jersey sources.

    If none, enter zero."

For example, if I made $1200 last year, that would mean I made $700 as a NY resident and $500 as a NJ resident. In the box asking for "Wage Income Attributed to New Jersey", do I enter $500 or zero?

I entered both and if I enter a dollar amount, I'm paying $274 to NJ. If I enter 0, I don't have any money to pay in. Obviously I prefer the latter, but I would rather not get a letter down the road stating I owe them.

    Thank you!

If you are present in a state, then any income earned during this period, must be reported to the state.

To your resident state, you must report your worldwide income for the year. Read Your U.S. Tax Return: Working or Living in Two or More states
