    Hippa law
I took a day off from work because I was sick. I called in to report that I wouldn't be going in for this reason. Later that day, my manager called and asked that I meet him at a job site. I explained to him that I was not at work, and that I was at home because I was sick. He proceeded to tell me to meet him at the job site and that it wouldn't take very long. Did he have the right to do this, although I had taken a sick day off?

The law you quote is to protect your personal medical information and has
Nothing to do with your boss asking you to come to work on a sick day.

What it boils down to is how important is it for you to keep your job.
If your boss needed information or instructions that you couldn't
Explain over the phone and you only had a cold, it wouldn't be
Unreasonable to drive down to work, because the job goes on
Under any circumstances. You obvioiusly are in a position where
Your input is vital. Another consideration to think about is how
Often do you call in sick? If you do it more than five times a
Year, he may not have believed you were really sick. Some
Jobs require you to bring in a statement from a doctor if you
Are off more than one or two days at a time.

If I were you and had been taking a lot of sick days, I would have
Been worried that he wanted me to meet him to fire me or at least to
    Give a serious warning.

If on, on the other hand, you seldom use a sick day and had the
Flu or were in terrible pain, get a doctor's statement. The doctor
Wouldn't need to give detailed personal information that violate
Your right to privacy. Just showing that you were sick enough
To need medical treatment (keep a copy for yourself). It's
Impossible to know whether your boss is unreasonable and
Doesn't like you, or whether you abuse sick time.

As stated above, this has absolutely nothing to do with hipaa.

It's simply your boss being a boss.
