Deciding on a tree to plant
I am trying to decide an trees to plant in my front yard. I know I want one with roots that grow straight down, but I don't want it to grow things that make a mess such as the beans. I would like a fast growing tree, that is good for climbing when it is mature. And also it needs to provide shade. Any suggestions?

The royal empress is the worlds fastest growing tree, and it grows big time. However, it has flowers that you might not be interested in. It also has roots that spread outwards so that could be a problem depending where you put it. Maybe you should look in to an oak or ash (both have good sized lateral roots though).

Perhaps you should try going to a nursery near where you live and they can point you to a tree that's suitable for your climate and with roots that fit your constraints.

    Good luck

Perhaps a chinese elm, or a fig tree, California pepper tree, or Nichol's Willow-leaf Peppermint tree.
They're all really good in dry areas some of them look a bit like weeping willows, but will do well in drought conditions.
