Long term marriage and support length
I was married for eighteen and one half years.
We had no children and my wife was never encouraged to stay at home. In fact, I supported her efforts to build a career as a television producer. I have been paying alimony for ten years and feel that it is time to stop.
She works to supplement her income. However, she depends upon my support way too much.
We have a gavron warning in the stipulation.

I now have a new family and the amount of her alimony is too draining. Are there any cases that look at the length of my alimony in light of the fact that she was never asked to sacrifice for my career?
If it were short term the length would be set . Why should I be expected to pay forever.

I'm glad you have a Gavron in your stipulation (you'd really be up a creek without it).

You're going to have to file a motion for modification and ask for a termination of support and support jurisdiction. Tens years of support on an 18 year marriage you would think would be enough. Give it a try. It's really impossible to answer your question or say more without more details.

None that I've ever heard of. Not that it's not relevant as one of the 4320 factors, but I don't know of a case specifically addressing it.

Back in 2000 and 2001, I had short term capital losses that exceeded the 3000 dollar limit. Each year, I've been able to deduct 3000 dollars since my short term gains have been minimal. I still haven't used up all my 2000 and 2001 short term losses. I had some long term gains in 2000, but...
