    Amend 2006 tax
    Hi
I wonder if someone can help, we are resident ailens living in the USA 2006 was the first tax we had to file, my husband had a w2 with earnings for the whole year but I did not as it took an age for me to get my work permit, without which I also could not get my ssn, when it came to filing my husband was told that he could only claim for himself as neither myself or our son had ssn, he filed as a single person on 1040EZ which I now understand is wrong. 2007 and 2008 were filed married filing joint as we now all have ssn or itin (son).
My question is this, can we amend 2006 tax to married file joint now or does the original stand as we had no ssn at time.

Yes, you can and should amend the 2006 return, filing jointly and claiming your child using the ITINs you now have.

It should be processed with little delay and you will get an expanded refund, plus interest from the past two years.
