Replacing Honeywell with Hunter Thermostat Wiring
I'm replacing my Honeywell T841A1423 thermostat with a Hunter 44660 thermostat but can't cross reference the wiring references:
    Honeywell are: W2, W3 G, R, O, Y, X
    Hunter are: Y1, RH, RC1, RC, Y/O, W/B, G

What terminals are used now with what color wires on the Honeywell? What type of system is it? Hot water system? Gas furnace? Is it a cooling system with some type of heat integrated (single control panel) or is it a furnace with an added AC coil in the duct (2 control systems)? Is it a heat pump?

Are you certain that you got the terminal labels correct for the Hunter unit? I am not familiar with RC1. If you haven't yet, please carefully read the manuals FIRST then continue with your questions.

My system is an electric heat pump Trane XE 1000. The color code for the existing Honeywell is as follows:
W2 is white, W3 is black, R is red, O is orange, G is green, Y is yellow, and X is blue.
According to the internet manual, the Hunter unit has the following coding on the terminal block:
RH (24V), RC (24V Cool), Y/O (AC Compressor), W/B (Heating), G (Fan), and Y1 (Heat Pump Compressor)

I don't know enough about the XE1000 heat pump off the top of my head and Trane's website it TOTALLY unhelpful. I can't tell if the reversing valve is active in cooling or in heating. The Tranes I am familiar with are active in heating, but if you get it wrong it will work backwards.

And that thermostat manual is PITIFUL. I think the 5 wire, single stage heat pump diagram is as close as you will come, but I doubt it will work the way the old system did.

An educated guess for the wiring is as follows:
    Wire Color to Tstat terminal
Red to R (with jumpers as shown)
    Yellow to Y1
    Green to G
Orange to W/H, but if you get cooling when you want heat, put it to the Y/O terminal
White - unused (tape off) On some systems it could also be attached to the Y1 terminal, but DON'T do this without knowing for CERTAIN. You could damage the system.
Black - unused (tape off) this probably is your electric backup heat, which will now not function.
Blue - unused (tape off) my guess is this was for thermostat power instead of batteries.

I have my doubts about the suitability of this thermostat for your application. It has no provision for backup/emergency heat. Someone with more experience with that tstat will have to take it from here if you want to use it. My advice is to get a real thermostat, like a Honeywell FocusPro 6000 series or something like that and have a service tech install and set it up for the system. It will have the programming capabilities you want, and it WILL work with your system.

Don't waste your time with the hunter,it will need replaced in a year. In my opinion walmart shouldn't be able to sell the things.

Unfortunately for me, there was an old Hunter programmable in one of our group homes. I finally got to replace it a couple months ago. It still works, but it is only 4 wire and I won't reuse it except for temporary. They are JUNK.
