    L-1 Tax for 2008
    Hi,

I have been in US on L1-B Visa from 20th June 2008 to 03rd October 2008. In order to file Taxes for 2008, which form do I need to use?(1040NR? ) Also currently I am in India, how do I file from here? Can I e-file? Or do I need to mail through postal? If so what is the address. Waiting for early reply.

    Thanks in advance,
    Appu

You will file non-resident tax return. You can mail your tax return from India and give India address. If you have a refund, IRS will mail you the check.

What MukatA has posted is accurate.

However, if you still have a U.S. bank account, do NOT close it, but rather keep it open so you can arrange for direct deposit of your refunds from both the IRS and the state tax refund. Such direct deposits are both quicker and safer than check refunds, and, once the refunds are deposited, you can arrange for wire transfers of the funds to your bank in India.

Neither the IRS nor the state will direct deposit to a foreign bank.
