When I got up this morning, I went to wash my hands and no water came out of the faucet. I turned the knob to the cold water and I got water. I checked the faucets downstairs and the hot water is working fine. My husband went to the basement and the pipes felt warm and there wasn't a leak. The hot water heater also seemed fine. Any suggestions as to why we can't get any water out of the hot side of our faucet upstairs?

How cold is it in your area? If exteremly cold then it is possible that you have a frozen pipe there... especially because hot water pipes will always freeze before cold water pipes do... let me know.

Otherwise, something got stuck/lodged/loosened at the inside cartridge to the single handle faucet or maybe at the shutoff under the sink.

If not a frozen pipe than I would have you start by shutting the hot and cold water shutoffs under the sink OFF... then remove the handle and then remove the cartridge inside the faucet. Then observe the cartridge and the interior of the valve... anthing obviously wrong? If not, pulse the hot water from under the sink by turning shutoff on for a second (cover valve with a towel here) and see if you can confirm hot water to faucet.

If hot water to faucet, replace the cartridge and see if this fixed things. If not, then take that cartridge out and take it to a local plumbing supply house or to a home supply store and see if you can find a replacement cartridge. Replace cartridge and then reassemble faucet and you should be good to go... ;)

If you have a frozen pipe, be sure to open the faucet to the hot water side (full open) and then take a hair dryer and start to heat the hot water pipe under the sink. Since copper is an excellent conductor of heat it should thaw the pipe quickly! Best case, you're all set. Worst case, pipe is burst and you will need to shut the water main and call a plumber to find the leak and repair it!
