My husband removed the wires from our old thermostat without labeling them. I have connected the following to a Hunter 44860:

G=green wire
Y1=yellow wire
O=orange
C=blue
R=red
W2=white

I have a black and brown wire left over. I even looked outside at the connected wires inside the unit.

We have HEIL Heat Pump Model # PHF048K00OE

Look at the "sticky" from Northernheat at the beginning of this heating forum... just about all you need to know is there, including wiring of thermostats and where the wires should be going.
