Unable to access the Internet using Verizon PC5750 in the D-Link DIR540
I purchased a D-Link DIR540 router (from ebay) in hopes that I would be able to set up a home network having all my pc's connected to the Internet.
I downloaded the setup instructions and the firmware for the Verizon PC5750 air card.
During set up the router does not see the internet, and there is not a pc5750 card in the dropdown menu so I have to set up the ISP network, which I take as dial-up.
I emailed DLINK and received information on how to configure the routed, but no instructions on how to access the routed to configure it.
If someone out there has run into this problem, please help me.
    Thanks.

I could not find a reference to a DIR540, so following response will target a DIR450.

The router needs to have Firmware Version 1.03 installed to support the Verizon PC5750 card. If you have never updated firmware on a router, I strongly suggest having a knowledgeable individual present when you do it. Done incorrectly, your router may be rendered inoperable. Accessing the router's web based configuration interface is covered on page 13 of the router's manual downloadable at the link above.

If not in the U.S. visit the DLINK site for your country instead of the link above.

Thanks Scleros, and yes the router is the DIR450.
I downloaded the firmware V 1.03 last night and ran it. However, I don't know where it downloaded to. A copy wound up in my documents.
At this time I am downloading the manual and will start over again.
Thanks again for the reply. I'm sure I will need more help later on.

OK, I reset the router and downloaded the firmware for the verizon pc5750.
I still cannot connect the router to the pc5750 card.
The router led's status light does't blink and the evdo light does not light.
    Any ideas?

Below is a general overview of what typically would need to be done. The process may need adjustment for your particular network arrangement. What wasn't done?

Step 1: Connect Router to Computer

Connect computer's wired network adapter to one of the LAN ports on the router with an Ethernet cable. Then configure the computer's network adapter to use the same LAN subnet as the router. The router defaults to using the 192.168.0.0/24 subnet. So, configure the computer's network adapter to use any IP address between 192.168.0.2 and 192.168.0.254 with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 and a default gateway of 192.168.0.1 (the router).

Then verify access to the router's web based configuration utility by following the instructions on page 13 of the manual. Once the router can be accessed proceed to the next step.

    Step 2: Update router firmware

Download the firmware again noting where it was saved on your computer. The firmware comes as a compressed .ZIP archive. The archive will need to be unzipped to yield the single firmware image file contained within. Then access the web based configuration utility as done in step 1 and follow the firmware update instructions on page 33 of the manual. Cross your fingers and reboot the router using the reboot option from the configuration utility's Tools page. Once router comes up re-verify access to the web based configuration utility. Once router can be accessed, proceed to next step.

Step 3: Install Verizon card and configure

Turn router off and install Verizon card as described on page 10 of manual, then turn router on and configure card as described on page 17 of manual.

    Step 4: Configure wireless LAN

If you have computers that will connect wirelessly to the router, configure the wireless features for security as desired (pages 18-19, 28 in manual). If no computers will connect wirelessly, disable the wireless feature to prevent your neighbors from getting free Internet access.

Thanks again, I downloaded the firmware upgrade one more time and this time it must have gotten through. When running the setup wizard the card type showed up in the ISP-Card type. After completing the setup, the router came up and I was able to log on to the internet.

    Thanks again for your response.
