    Tenement Flat Sewerage Smell
Hope someone can help as I'm at my wit's end. I live on the 2nd floor of a 3 story old glasgow tenement flat. As usual with shared buildings it's a nightmare trying to get anything fixed... so I'm sorting it myself

For the last year or so I have been getting a regular bad bad smell in the flat. Almost like a sewerage smell. It comes in bursts and seems to have no link to anything I'm doing ( i.e come's when I'm sitting wating TV, lying in bed, just walked in the front door). The bathroom seems to be the worst. If I keep the door closed the smell in the rest of the flat is minimal. The kitchen is open plan and has no door to shut. It seems to come from the drains although by the time the smell comes and I run to the bathroom to try identify the sorce, its everwhere and I can't smell where it came from. It is such a strong pungent smell

Further to this, and not sure if its linked, when either the flat up stairs or the flat down stairs uses there water (again can't identify which direction its from), the pipes seem to make a kind or rattling sound for a few seconds.

My hot water comes from a large tank in the loft which feeds a smaller tank in my flat... other than that, I'm not to sure about the set up of the plumbing system.

Please, any help anyone can give would be much appreciated

PS - it has been suggested it could be hydrogen sulphide due to the rotten egg type smell
