    How painful are tattoos
I REALLY want a tattoo. I heard that on skinny girls it hurts more, and "lucky" for me, I have some meat :] (except I'm trying to lose it).

Im just wondering on a scale of one to ten, for a 17 year old girl, how bad it will...
Im a when it comes to pain, so I know it will hurt, but just... how BAD??
    HAHA

Well it depends where and what kkind of tattoo.

If it's on a limb it doesn't hurt as bad as a back tattoo ( lower backs hurt worse then upper) and the worst of all would have to be on the ribs.

As a general explanation it feels really hot and kind of like a tearing pain. Like I said though it all depends on what, where and your pain tolerance.

For me it hurt a little, but I would get more anyday.

Let me know what you plan on getting and where at!

Well I don't have one on my thigh LOL but I have one on my right arm/shoulder it goes onto both parts. That is the only tattoo I have so I will explain how that felt.

It feels like a hot needle dragged across your skin!

Ah the sweet sting of a tattoo needle. It is a different kind of feeling that is for sure. I have several tattoos in several different areas (wrist, forearm, back, biceps, leg). As far as the pain involved it is all up to the individual getting the tattoo AND the person giving the tattoo. The deeper they dig the more it will hurt. Pain is a relevant term though. One of m oldest friends is a tattoo artist and I have experienced all types of people in his chair. I have seen 95 pound women getting inked with hardly a wince while I have also seen big, burly cops getting poked and passing out and pissing themselves.

The general rule of thumb was that the closer it was to a bone the more it hurt. Not sure if this rings true but I can say that on my back the closer it got to my spine it hurt more than it did on the outer parts on my back.

Whatever you decide please put a lot of thought not only into what you get but also into who does it. It's easier to have it done right the first time then to have to repay someone with the hopes of fixing it.

I got one on my upper back and it hurt sooo bad I cried lol , and anyone who says they don't hurt is a liar. The pain made me want to pass out, my suggestion to you is get a really small one to start and that way if it hurt to bad at least you didn't have to go through it for a long time

Do you know if there is a difference in pain if you get "white ink" or "black light ink?"

Pain is a range that varies form individual to individual. It may have hurt for you but I've seen people not think twice when getting them on their backs! There is no certain thing we can tell you that will ease your mind. Everyone feels different when getting a tattoo.

All I have to say is get it somethwhere that has proven themselves as worthwhile and NEVER let a new artist tattoo you (my sister made that mistake and she paid BIGTIME)

    Hope any of this helps

Again there are some that say some colors hurt worse than others but I didn't experience that at all. Some of this cold come from the fact that since most outlining is done in black and the outline needles are smaller, or rather less of them, then color needles.

No that is not what I am saying at all. If you look at what I wrote I mentioned that I have not found any one color to be worse as any other color. After so long you kind of go 'numb' in the area getting poked.

My opinion the outline is deepr and hurt yeah but to me the shadowing of my tattoo on my arm/shoulder hurt worse then the outline!

Well there aren't as many needles in an outline set up. The more needles the more surface area of impact. Kind of like how people can lay down on a bed of nails without getting hurt.

I have a tattoo of Two butterflys on my left shoulder blade closer to the middle of my back than to the arm its self. It is in black, purple, blue, pink and white. I am usually a big wuss but I found it didn't hurt that much. Its my first tattoo and I'm going in for my second this month. I am a skinny girl I guess you could say lol. I'm 5'5.5" and 145 pounds. To me it felt like someone scratching my back over and over with a needle and I did see black dots in my vision once in a blue moon but I found once it really started to hurt they would move to a new spot. My boyfriend got a big custom tattoo on his arm and it didn't seem to phase him at all. I also watched my deaf sister (whom you could convince you poked her with something sharp even if it was just a unsharpened pencil... {i used to pick on her lol not in a bad way though after all I am her sister} ) get a tattoo of the sign language symbol for I love you tattooed on her hip and she didn't cry or anything. Though I think some of the pain you think you feel is from the whine of the motor from the tattoo gun.
