Can anyone provide a source for an easy to understand diagram that illustrates the way to connect a high definition converter to a DVD player/recorder, VCR player/recorder, and TV?

Are you talking about the digtal to analog converters that older TVs will need to receive Over The Air (OTA) programing in the US after February 17? Note that those converters work with both High Definition TV (HDTV) and Standard Definition TV (SDTV), both of which are subsets of digital TV (DTV).

In most cases connect the converter outputs to the matching input connections on the recorder. Where the diagram in the manual that comes with the converter shows "TV" substitute "recorder" (VCR, DVD recorder or DVR) . Then use the diagrams in the recorder's manual to connect the recorder to the TV. IF the recorder's manual is missing, some manufacturers have diagrams on their web sites.

If a combo DVD player/VCR, VCR, DVD recorder or DVR has composite(color coded yellow) and stereo (usually color coded red and white) inputs simply connect the three outputs on the converter to the matching input connections on the recorder. You may use coaxial RF connections too.

As many play only DVD decks lack input connections, you can connect each device to a matching set of composite and stereo inputs on the TV if the TV has multiple sets of inputs. Some TVs have the second set of inputs on the front or on the side near the front. If your TV only has one set of composite video and stereo inputs many TV and video game retailers sell switch boxes.
