I have a Genie IS550 garage door opener and problem started with motorhead making a humming noise and door would not close or open. After reading a few resolutions in other blogs/forums, some people stated that it was either the transformer or the capacitor. I replaced both components and made adjustments using the open/close force adjustment and it still isn`t working. :confused:

A real shot in the dark. Safety. If your door is down there should be a disconnect to release the door bracket from the door. See if the motor runs with no load. Does the motor jerk the door at all? Look up in the travel of the shaft track that goes to the closer to investigate any contact points that that when the door gets so far it shuts the motor off. Also check to see if there is a speed/strength setting on the closer motor area. Check for wires and grounding. If there is a be a strength setting on hard the door closes. The reason for that is to balance the closer with the weight of the door. That is done because all Doors have different weight for travel and the closers are rated for more than one door weight and travel lengthhs. Your open and close is the sensitive for an object in the way (child toy ect)not necessarily to push the door in travel. Closing adjustment would be the bump sensitives. Think if the door was heavy then the 'Close adjustment" would have to be set higher and when the travel is done it would really go thump Look for a strength screw by the closer adjustments . It might look like a nylon post out the back of the closer and easy to miss. Like I said a shot in the dark. I saw this yersterday and apperantly the ideas were diffuclt and many times for good reason nobody want to miss guide you. I might be doing that now but I thought what the heck something better then nothing here.Happy Holiday

The motor will run a bit (with no load) , stop a few feet then it will hum after a few tries again.I did however added radiant barrier (bubble type) to the garage door and maybe adding a little more weight to it, I also adjusted more tension to the torsion spring. I lubricated the rollers and tracks and to the screw shaft if this is any help to your answer. The unit is 7 years old and 1 1/2 hp and found no other nylon post besides the open and close adjustment ones.Thank you for your help!

That's better than just a mmm. Well maybe a Little closer. Aim going to ask some may redundant question and not to insult. "No load" meant the door not hooked up? When it tries a few times and hums, unplug it. Then plug it back in then what's it do, jerk, humm, nothing, and press the start switch and then anything? I keep leaning towards opening and closing "Force". Did you have the cover off and look at the very top and bottom of the closer? Can you see any flush adjustment screw. Or Sometimes on screw type the is a little nut or double nut that spins and activates the force adjustment. I am not giving up yet! So cover of get it bare and any little hole to put a screwdriver in and are the adjustments directions on the inside cover at all? If so what does it have in wording? I will be keeping an I on this one Thanks for the return message.
