We have just bought a house and the heating system is a weathertron. On the wall control what would happen if you used the emerg for less than 5 minutes and then realized it was not energy.Should I be worried or should I call a tech to come out.

A little background:

Emergency heat is now sometimes called aux heat, which has less of the 'what did I do wrong?" problem that your experiencing. A heat pump install typically has some resitance heating installed because when the temperature is very low outside, like below freezing, the heat pump cannot extract enough heat from the outside air to keep the house warm. There has to be a call for sencond or third stage heat for em heat to even come on.

If it was on and there was a call for heat, it was like having a couple of toasters on for that amount of time.

Nothiing dangerous. Nothing wrong. Nothing needs to be fixed. The "them heat" is more of an enable/disable and it makes you aware that heating will be more expensive.

The HP may or may not operate at the same time as emergency heat.
